What is the ARRT® Exam?

What is the ARRT® Exam?

The ARRT® Exam is the final step on your journey to becoming certified and registered with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists). Let’s dive into the details:

Purpose of the ARRT Exam:

  • The ARRT exam assesses your knowledge of the daily tasks performed by an entry-level technologist in your specific discipline (such as radiography, nuclear medicine, or sonography).

  • It ensures that you are well-prepared to take on radiographic technology jobs in settings like hospitals, physicians’ offices, and imaging centers.

  • The exam is challenging but fair, designed with input from industry experts and Registered Technologists (R.T.s) nationwide.

Exam Format:

  • The ARRT exam consists of 230 questions.

  • To pass, you need to correctly answer at least 131 questions.

  • The questions cover various aspects of your discipline, including theory, practical skills, and safety protocols.

Exam Creation and Statistics:

  • ARRT develops each exam to accurately assess candidates’ knowledge.

  • The format, content, and statistical analysis ensure a reliable assessment.

  • While ARRT doesn’t endorse specific study materials, many use their Content Specifications (content outlines) as a guide for exam preparation.

Taking the Exam:

  • Test-taking can be stressful, but knowing what to expect helps.

  • You’ll find information on test centers, security measures, and ADA accommodation requests.

  • Be well-prepared, stay calm, and give it your best effort on exam day.

After the Exam:

  • After taking the exam, you’ll receive your final score.

  • If you don’t pass, don’t worry—you have multiple attempts.

  • Learn from any areas where you fell short and try again.

Remember, the ARRT exam is a significant milestone in your career as a radiologic technologist.

ARRT® Registry Exam Day Experience Rules

Remember, tardiness of 15 minutes or more may mean forfeiting your appointment, but don't worry—it won't count as an examination attempt. When choosing your outfit for the day, think about comfort and flexibility.

ARRT® Registry Exam Day Experience Rules

Layering clothing is key, as the test room temperature may vary. Opt for cozy sweaters or hoodless sweatshirts, steering clear of outerwear or hooded clothing.

If you wear head coverings for cultural or medical reasons, they're allowed, but Pearson VUE staff will give them a quick visual check before you head into the test room.

Last but not least, ensure you're ready to roll by emptying your pockets before stepping into the examination area. With these simple tips, you'll be all set for a successful and stress-free ARRT® Registry Exam experience!
